It looks like almost an entire year has passed since I last updated this old thing. I updated it on the day I moved to Dallas 351 days ago and posted all my goals for the year. A lot of things changed a few of my goals got overlooked, but I achieved most of them to some extent. The ones I did not achieve will simply be carried over to this year! Here's the round-up:
(TL;DR at the bottom for you lazier folk.)
- Raise my grades and not fail any classes
I didn't fail any classes for the semester I attended school in 2012! I went to a local community college to cover all the pre-requisites that Texas required and got one (haha) out of the way. I wanted to take three of them but they were all booked by the time I moved over. (Note: I moved on the 16th and classes started on the 20th- I had to reapply the day-of as well because they lost(?) my online application somehow.)
This year I'm taking the remaining classes at another community college and then hopefully transferring to UT-Dallas to finish up my degree in their Arts and Technology program- at least that is the plan as of right now. Things will probably change!
- Eat better and exercise to get my lift-limit above 30lb
I did eat a lot better, though I'm not sure if you can even tell by looking at me, but while I did a lot of walking I didn't start any strict exercise regiments or anything and I didn't increase my lift-limit by much. I think it's about 20lb total?
I have to take a physical education course this year so I guess not exercising will not be an option! As for the lift-limit, I'm going to start lifting small weights at least once a day to help with that. I also plan to have a talk with a doctor about being referred to a nutritionalist/dietician/whatever people call them now- and see what they suggest about my diet/exercise.
Old and New Goals:
- Finish at least ONE short comic and self publish online and/or offline
Uh, well I did do that eBook for Christmas that no one commented on! If you head over to the deviation, which is the image of the cover, you can get the link to the eBook: [link]
I don't know if I'm going to focus on comics at all this year. I really want to work hard on my illustration and animation this year. I'd like to do an interactive storybook, wouldn't that be cool? Maybe you'll see more Flash work from me this year...
- Work on loading up my StoreEnvy store with merch
I set up a StoreEnvy and then didn't have enough money to actually produce product (whoops!). I also set up a Society6 and then couldn't produce any works I was comfortable with putting on merchandise.
I'm not super-concerned about this right now, but I still have a design I'm working to put into the store sometime this year (it has cheesecats!).
- Mail real letters and postcards to people who dislike email
I did mail a few letters but they were all to my Mamma Cat. No one really wanted to be penpals, so *shrugs* no letters.
Mamma Cat and I are exchanging letters about once a month and we'll probably continue to do so throughout the year.
- Draw EVERY SINGLE DAY
Well...I really did try! Sometimes I just didn't feel like it though...
...which is something I need to get over! This year I'm not even going to carry a purse if it can't fit a sketchbook.
- Collaborate and do art trades with folks as much as possible
I didn't do any art trades or collaborations, though I did start a few small projects with friends that didn't really take off.
I'm always open to collaborations and trades, but I don't think I'll seek any out this year unless something special comes up. It's going to be a busy year for me artistically and maybe this is a good year to work hard for myself (last year it was all gifts!).
- Not lose contact with ANYONE
2012 wasn't a good year for me socially. I didn't make any long-lasting friends when I moved here, and spent most of my time talking to the two IRL friends who actually still use IM to chat with people. I guess I was successful in not losing contact with anyone I knew back in Indy, but then again they never really contact anyone anyway.
I always feel like I'm being a burden when I contact people I haven't talked to in a long time, but maybe I need to get over that too! I think since a lot of my friends are natural introverts that they just don't think about socialising unless they have some one right in front of them (I can be like that too). I'm going to try harder to let my old friends know they are not forgotten.
and some BrandNew New Goals:
New friends! I registered for MeetUp and joined a couple of local gamer groups. I'm also part of the Dallas Indie Game Developers Group, though that's more of a formality for right now. And of course starting school again this year I plan to make lots of new friends too.
Cleaner spaces! Like most college students I prefer to live in a constant state of organised chaos, but it will probably make it a lot easier to live and work in my room if I clean it up on at least a weekly basis (hahaha).
Driving! Did you know I have a crippling driving anxiety? Well I sure do! This year I'm planning to change that.
Portfolio! I need one of these and I need to start working on it.
School! I already know that I'm going but I need to make some seriously concrete plans to finish, once and for all!
TL;DR? I'm alive! I have goals! Things are going great here in Texas and I'm looking forward to 2013!
